Tell Gov. Kemp: Remove the solar cap and barriers to growth for solar in Georgia

Senate Bill (SB) 299 is bipartisan legislation that will better enable homeowners, nonprofits and small businesses to install solar and to receive fair compensation for the clean energy they produce. Dear Gov. Kemp,

I am writing to you today because Georgia's solar success depends on you.

Georgia ranks ninth in the nation for installed solar capacity, but the vast majority of this solar is not on rooftops. There are multiple barriers that make it difficult for businesses, homeowners, and non-profits like schools and churches to install their own solar panels.

Because of these barriers, too many Georgians are unable to capture the health and economic benefits of clean energy and are forced to buy into dirty energy every time we flip the switch.

Senate Bill (SB) 299 would turn this around, making it easier for individuals to put solar on their homes and businesses and to receive fair compensation for the clean energy they produce.

Our state is blessed with smart innovators and abundant sunshine. It doesn't make sense to pipe gas and drill for oil when, with smart solar policies, we could increase clean, renewable energy production in Georgia, which currently accounts for just over 3% of our state's electricity.

It is imperative that the 2019 solar cap on monthly energy metering be raised or removed in order to realize the full economic, health and environmental benefits of local solar energy in Georgia. We urge you to take action on behalf of your constituents by supporting SB 299.
